The National Museum is always a topic of debate.
In reality, the National Museum is three museums, as the group also includes the Museum of Danish Resistance and the Open Air Museum. We have assisted them with developing individual core narratives for each museum as well as a unifying story for the national museums as a whole.
CORE STORY:
The National Museum is who we are.
Ever since it was called the King’s Kunstkammer, Denmark’s great national museum has been up for debate. What’s the point of all this stuff?
Old junk, national romanticism, and bog finds—good grief.
Yes, that’s part of the point. It’s not certain that God is as concerned with preserving the nation’s history as we are.
But Denmark’s history is the backbone of the nation. It’s what holds everything together when we can’t find ourselves or each other.
And our task is not just to preserve history. Our task is to tell it. In the present.
That’s why we serve up dashing Vikings, dusty relics, and ancient babble in a sharp sauce. That’s why we research, but it’s also why we confuse and provoke.
Our history is not meant to be merely archived. It needs to be activated. We must always shake ourselves to the core.
We need to press the boredom button when things get too academic, and the bullshit button when things get too nationalistic. Because it’s about understanding—not just what we have been or what we can become, but what we are. And just like the National Museum, that is always up for discussion.
